Up-and-coming Sudbury country singer and songwriter Larry Berrio will perform at Fraser Auditorium May 10 at 7:30 p.m. to raise money for autism awareness.

Sudbury News - Larry Berrio hosting charity concert Berrio announced the date and location of the show April 7 at Tom Davies Square along with Deputy Mayor Ron Dupuis and local Autism Ontario representative Rick Grylls.

"Larry...wanted to give some of his good fortune back to the community by offering some of his donations, so this is huge for us," said Grylls.

Autism Ontario is a volunteer run organization looking to improve awareness of autism across Ontario so that individuals effected by Autism Spectrum Disorders are given the same opportunities as anyone else in society.

Grylls said that the organization holds information seminars with experts in the field of autism to spread awareness.

Berrio said his wife, a child psychologist, has been helping Sudbury families deal with autism for years. There is a lack of autism awareness in the area, he said.

"We want to raise an awareness for it here in Sudbury," said Berrio. "We want to raise funds because there are a lot of families and children here that are affected by autism here in Sudbury."

Berrio opened for country duo Brooks and Dunn last month at the Sudbury Arena to a standing ovation. Berrio said he hopes the response can be as good at the Fraser Auditorium show.

"It would mean a lot to me just to show how much support I have here in Sudbury and how many friends and fans that I have in Sudbury that are following my career," said Berrio.

Dupuis said he is hoping the concert sells out in a matter of days. If this is the case, Berrio may put on a second performance May 10.

Tickets are $25 and are on sale at the Sudbury Theatre Centre box office at 674-8381.
