More than $3,000 in prize money to be won

Cinéfest Sudbury has announced this year’s finalists for the CTV Best in Short competition. 

The screening of the finalists’ films takes place Saturday, Sept. 24 at 12 p.m. at SilverCity Sudbury Cinemas, 355 Barrydowne Rd. 

The screening will be followed by the awards presentation.

The 2016 finalists are:

  • Homegrown, Jack and Dylan White, Gore Bay
  • REZilience, Jayson Stewart, Massey
  • Couple of Friends, Masha Potapov, Sudbury
  • Movin’ On, Shawn Kosmerly, Sudbury
  • Observations, Mathieu Seguin, Sudbury
  • Underhand, Eric Dodds, Sault Ste. Marie
  • Broken, Sheri Schweyer, North Bay
  • Parental Advisory, Janet Hilliard, North Bay
  • The Clearing – Breakwater, Jonathan King-Séguin, Sudbury
  • Coming Apart, Andrew Lucas, Sudbury
  • Camani, Dale Carrigan, North Bay

Open Category:

  • First Place - $1,250 
  • Second Place - $750

Student Category:

  • First Place - $1,250 
  • Second Place - $750

Northern Flicks Award:

$500 will be presented in this category. The Northern Flicks Award will recognize the film that best celebrates aspects of life in Northern Ontario and that inspires people to examine their values and beliefs relating to the environment, health behaviours and/or social change.

The 28th edition of Cinéfest Sudbury runs from Sept. 17 – 25.
