Kirsti Conron, special events co-ordinator for the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre in Capreol, is inside the kitchen of a boxcar home, recreated as it would have looked during 1920 and 1930's era.
Boxcars were converted into homes in Capreol to house CNR workers and families when there was a shortage of housing. The project began in early May and was completed in June.
The home was furnished by local residents and volunteers. Many boxcar homes still remain today in Capreol. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for students and seniors and children under three are free.
The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday until Aug. 31. Off season and after hours visits can be arranged by phoning 858-5050. For more information go to www.NorthernOntarioRailroadMuseum.ca.
