One of world's most spectacular destinations, Rio de Janeiro
(the "Marvelous City") is backed by coastal mountains, forests
and fronted by the Atlantic Ocean. Brazil's cultural capital
for the past 500 years, Rio is the springboard for all major
cultural exports, and the port of entry for international art
and music. The beautiful scenery, climate, beaches, lifestyle,
and people of Rio offer the adventuresome traveller a rich
tapestry of memories guaranteed to last a lifetime.
The 2007 Rio de Janeiro Marathon, Half Marathon, or six-kilometre Peace Run will be unforgettable events.
Whether you choose to run or walk, you'll be treated to
magnificent views on all races. Each course takes place along
the waterfront, passing by famous beaches such as Ipanema,
Copacabana, Botafogo and Flemengoa and the unmistakable
mountains of Sugarloaf and Corcovado. In addition to the
memories each participant will make on race day, all finishers
will receive an official T-shirt, a goody bag, and a finisher's
medal.
More than two million Canadians have diabetes and this
number is expected to increase dramatically as the population
ages. Team Diabetes Canada is dedicated to helping people meet
their fitness goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle by
providing them with a truly exciting challenge and an
encouraging team environment. Since 2000, Team Diabetes Canada
has sent participants to marathons all over the world, from
Amsterdam to Rome. Participants have walked and run thousands
of kilometres and raised more than $8.5 million to find a cure
for diabetes. This year, participants are on target to raise
another $5.5 million.
Team Diabetes Canada is the national sports fundraising
program for the Canadian Diabetes Association. While raising
funds for research and education, Team Diabetes Canada also
raises awareness that an active lifestyle is the best way to
help prevent Type 2 diabetes. Team Diabetes members commit to
raising a designated amount of funds on behalf of the Canadian
Diabetes Association. In return, Team Diabetes provides
training and fundraising advice, and picks up their travel
costs to the marathon.
The Canadian Diabetes Association works to prevent diabetes
and improve the quality of life for those affected, through
research, education, service and advocacy. With a presence in
more than 150 communities, the Canadian Diabetes Association's
strong network of assistance includes volunteers, employees,
healthcare professionals and partners.
