Former Sudbury filmmaker Amy Miller's new documentary tackles what she says is the myth that Canada only participates in peacekeeping missions.

Peacekeeping is a buzz word, Miller said. Canada has really been involved in wars in places such as Yugoslavia and Afghanistan, although the country didn't start these wars, she said.

The documentary investigates the military's justification behind Canadian involvement in foreign conflicts through interviews, archived footage and satirical cartoons.

"The motivation for the documentary came out of many years of social justice organizing," says Miller. "I found that there weren't popular education tools out there that helped people develop their (own) analysis."

"I don't want people to feel overwhelmed and disempowered by this," says Miller.

"I want people to feel informed and ready to start taking on the challenge of building a collective power to create positive change."

Miller collaborated with Boban Chaldovich to produce the film. In hopes of spreading their message across the country, Miller and Chaldovich have been touring with Myths for Profit, stopping in at more than 40 Canadian cities.

"We hit the road right away. We have done Central Ontario, Southern Ontario, we did the East Coast, we went to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia."

Miller was treated to the applause and lively discussion with local protestors from Sudbury Against War and Occupation, close friends and family after the screening.
