With the sudden swoosh of warm weather in our area,  there is no better opportunity to plan to attend the Capreol Youth Artsfest will be held from Aug. 1 to 3.

The closing date for creative entries is July 18, stated a news release. To ensure the success of the event, organizers need to know the numbers of participants well ahead of time.

Entries accepted include poetry, short stories, one-act plays, acting, dance, choral and instrumental (solo and groups), and visual arts and crafts. There is no limit to the type of art or the number of artists  permitted.

The artsfest was first held in August, 2007. Over 40 young people from ages six to 18 contributed musical and artistic creations and performances. About 240 people attended the event. There were a variety of styles, from Ozzy Osbourne and classical sonatas to wooden diorama and oil portraits.

As a follow-up to the first artsfest, several community art workshops for youth, including palette knife painting and dance, were offered. During the March break, youth participated in drum-making and playing, painting, and a four-day drama workshop. Another workshop is planned for April.
