Group of Seven painter A.J. Casson's portrait of a Greater Sudbury lake will be on the auction block Nov. 23 at the Heffel Fine Art Auction in Toronto.

His oil-on-canvas painting of the lake located just north of the northwest tip of Killarney Park has a conservative estimate of $90,000 - $120,000. Since 1974, Casson Lake in Curtian Township in the District of Sudbury has been named after the famous painter, who was the youngest member of the Group of Seven. A total of eight of Casson's paintings will be up for auction.

There will also be 22 works by Group of Seven artist, A.Y. Jackson, and six Tom Thomson works, including Northern Lights, in which he captures the aurora Borealis.

The auction will take place at 7 pm at Toronto's Park Hyatt Hotel on Avenue Road. The 236-lot sale has the highest ever pre-sale estimate for a Canadian art auction, at $13-$18 million.

Details and high resolution colour images of all the works up for bidding can be reviewed at Heffel's online newsroom at www.heffel.com .
