Real men wear dresses. Or at least they do for this year's celebrity fundraiser for the Sudbury Theatre Centre.

This Friday and Saturday night, 39 media types and politicians will be acting up to support the great work the professionals do season after season at the STC.

Judi Straughan has written a script called Celebrities Do American Television, Huh! (Two years ago the show was called Celebrities Do Canadian Television, Eh! The show promises to be full of memories and laughs.

American television favourites such as The Honeymooners. Dragnet, Sienfield, The Larry King Show, Mr. Rogers, Gunsmoke, All in the Family will be spoofed.

Councillor Doug Craig will wear a dress for his part at Sue Johannson in the skit called The Sunday Night Sex Show. Sports reporter Randy Pascal will play Edith in the All in the Family skit. Dr. Roger Strasser dresses up as Granny in the Saturday night skit, The Beverly Hillibillies.

The cast also includes CBC Radio's Dan Lessard, Science North's Dave Pearson, PC candidate Gerry Labelle, CIGM Radio's Scott Overton, Councillors Joe Cimino, Frances Caldarelli, Janet Gasparini and Ted Callaghan, and artist/architect Oryst Sawchuk.

Straughan produced the first celebrities night in 2000. It was a huge hit. This is a blessing and a curse. It is a lot of work for Strauhgan.

She writes all the scripts as well as directs the large cast of unprofessionals. Some have stage experience and others have none.

"Come prepared to laugh," said Straughan, who has been holding rehearsals for the past two weeks.
Tickets for the Friday or Saturday show are $30. Phone the STC box office at 674-8381 for tickets.

The next regular STC production will be Winfield's Inferno, which will run from Feb. 21 to March 9. Rod Beattie stars in the one-man show about a stockbroker-turned-farmer.
