Cinefést Sudbury announced the first slate of films that will
appear in this year's lineup for the 20th anniversary
edition of the festival. With close to 140 films, including
shorts and a 20 per cent French Canadian content, the event
promises to have something for everyone -comedy, tragedy,
drama, romance and little bits of action here and there.
"In terms of our opening film, Passchendaele, it's a great Canadian film (starring Paul Gross) and a huge epic, and really traces how far Canadian film has come. This is a great year for Canadian film and we're very proud to be supportive of that," said Patrick O'Hearn, Managing Director Cinefést Sudbury.
"I think the entire festival will be a big hit. With this being
our 20th year, it will be an  overall celebration with a
number of things that look back at our history and celebrate
what we've done in the City of Greater Sudbury," he
adds.
When asked which film he thought may be a sleeper, he said he was looking forward to the audience reaction to Blindness.
The film is about a city ravaged by an epidemic of instant "white blindness". There is however, one eyewitness to the nightmare; a woman whose sight is unaffected by the plague. She leads seven strangers out of quarantine into the ravaged streets. Their voyage is fraught with danger, yet their survival and ultimate redemption reflect the tenacity and depth of the human spirit. Blindness all-star cast includes Academy Award nominated actress Juliane Moore (Magnolia, Far from Heaven), Mark Ruffalo (Zodiac) and Danny Glover (The Color Purple).
