Copper Cliff church celebrates centennial

One hundred years ago, the Church of St. John the Divine opened in Copper Cliff by Rev. T.N. Mumford, and was consecrated a year later, on July 13.

One hundred years ago, the Church of St. John the Divine opened in Copper Cliff by Rev. T.N. Mumford, and was consecrated a year later, on July 13.

To celebrate the centennial of their church, the congregation of 110 are holding an open house at the church, located on 34 Godfrey Dr., on May 15.

Archival materials, such as photos, pamphlets, letters and books, will be available for viewing at the open house. The materials are borrowed from church members, as well as from the Diocese of Algoma.

After the open house, a display will be set up and be available for viewing indefinitely.

On Saturday, May 22, a special service celebrating the church's anniversary will be held with Pastor Glen Miller, Bishop Stephen Andrews, and Father Tom Corston. The service begins at 4 p.m.

The church will also hold its annual Strawberry Tea on Wednesday, June 16, from noon to 6 p.m.For more information, phone 682-3360.
