Music and Film in Motion is offering Northern Ontario filmmakers the opportunity to sit down with entertainment lawyer Tony Duarte at our next seminar, Behind the Scenes of Entertainment Law: Film. The session will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 7 to 9pm

Tony Duarte is a lawyer in private practice exclusively in the area of entertainment law. He represents producers, institutional investors, distributors, writers and others in the film and television industry. He has been legal counsel to the producers of numerous motion pictures and television productions including Monkey Warfare, Beowulf & Grendel, Lie With Me, One Dead Indian, Dog Park, The Red Violin, Twitch City, New Waterford Girl, and Lives Of The Saints.

Duarte has been a guest speaker on film and television topics at the Canadian Film Centre, Sheridan College, the Masters of Fine Arts film program at both York University and Concordia University, and at Canadian Institute and Insight industry conferences. As of January 2008, Duarte will be teaching a course in entertainment law at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University.

The session will focus on different types of contracts and agreements, what you should know as a first-time filmmaker, and the basics of copyright. Duarte will also be answering any specific questions about film and television law.

The session, free for members and $5 for non-members, will be taking place at Music and Film in Motion, located at 96 Larch St., suite 200, in Sudbury.
