The south side of Market Square will be packed with perennial plants for sale on Saturday.

The Sudbury Horticultural Society fall sale of perennials takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m  Sept. 13 at the farmers' market located downtown at the corner of Elgin Street and Elm Street.

A wide assortment of plants grown locally by members and hardy to the north will be available. The event will continue rain or shine as the society will be set up under the overhang at the market.

"We do this as a modest fundraiser each fall for our horticultural society. Last year we raised hundreds of dollars which helps our budget out," said Hermina Hubert, president.

According to Hubert plants for sale include:
-hostas
-day lilies
-ladies mantle
-coral bells
-even shrubs such as Annabelle Hydrangea

Because prices are quite reasonable, gardeners whether new or seasoned, can stock up on plants for less than they would pay normally. Prices vary depending on size and rarity of plant but expect $1, $3 and $5 plants in four to six inch pots, said Hubert.

Four master gardeners will be on hand to answer questions on the selection and care of the plants presented for sale. In addition another four to five horticultural assistants will be on hand to help too.

Donated plants (potted and labelled) may be dropped off at Market Square any time after 7 p.m. Saturday morning.

For more information or advance pick up, phone Hermina at 692-1442. The Sudbury Horticultural Society will be hosting a floral design and preserves Autumn Show the last Sunday of the month, September 28, at their regular venue at the C.N.I.B. Building on York Street.
