Last August, local fiddler Paul Lemelin took first place in the open category against 20 other fiddlers at the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Competition.

He followed that the next weekend by winning the open class at the Pembroke Fiddle Contest, the country's biggest fiddle competition. It was only the fourth time a fiddler has won the two competitions back-to-back.

Lemelin also did well as this year's Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Competition, held in Moncton, New Brunswick this past weekend. He placed second, and was beaten only by last year's second place finisher.

He heads to the Pembroke Fiddle Contest this coming weekend.
