Meteo+, a francophone television show filmed in Sudbury, has been nominated for two awards. The technical support crew and actors have often been seen filming in the downtown area during the past year and recently. This week the show even put their (fake) sign up at the COPY COPY building on Durham Street. File photo.
Météo+, a locally produced French-language television series, has now been nominated for two 2009 Gémeaux Awards: best Original Music for a Drama and Best Musical Theme.

The Gémeaux Awards, hosted by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and television, received 1,335 submissions this year and begin Thursday in Montreal.

Méteo+ tells the story of a regular guy trying to survive in a crazy mixed up world. After his divorce, the Quebec native moves to Greater Sudbury, hoping to start again. He finds himself at the helm of a local weather channel geared to the francophone community.

“These nominations demonstrate the high-quality of the Méteo+ television production here in Greater Sudbury,” said Mayor John Rodriguez, in a news release.

“I am proud that work from our city is getting noticed in the very competitive Quebec arts scene.”

Producer Robert Charbonneau said he could not have succeeded in the work without the “overwhelming” support of the northern community and that of Franco-Ontarian artists.

“I am so proud to have earned this nomination in northern Ontario, and I thank the production staff and all of the actors.”
