Ontario winter traditions continue, no matter what the weather. Family outdoor fun is one of the characteristics of the Canadian spirit which is often captured at one of the many of the winter carnivals, snow fests, winter fests, ice festivals and winter light festivals taking place throughout the province.

Activities include skating, dog sledding, ice carvings, outdoor ice slides, ice mazes, snow tubing, toboggan rides, wood splitting, wood burning fires, axe throwing, lumberjack antics, snow tubing, drinking hot chocolate or hot cider, face painting, watching clowns and smash-up derbies. With the second year of the new family day long weekend Feb. 13 -16, more Ontario residents will have a greater opportunity to get outdoors in Ontario and experience winter. The following is a list of winter festivals around the province:

Southern Georgian Bay-North Simcoe
Feb. 1-22

Orillia Winter Carnival
Orillia Feb. 13-15

Barrie's Winterfest & Festival of Ice
