Friends of the Roxborough Greenbelt and the Junction Creek
Stewardship Committee invite people to register now for its
Winter Walkathon, which starts Sunday, Feb. 10 at 1 pm and
finishes at Tom Davies Square at 3 pm.
The fundraiser is part of an effort to establish the Roxborough
Greenbelt (the land bordered by Kingsmount Blvd. and Riverside
Dr., from Winchester Dr. to Junction Creek) as a public green
space.
"In order to establish the greenbelt as a protected green
space, a community contribution of $50,000 is required, of
which half already has been raised by the Friends of the
Roxborough Greenbelt. Be part of something wonderful," said
Allison Muckle, coordinator of the Junction Creek Stewardship
Committee.
Register on-line at
www.friendsofthegreenbelt.net
or call 525-8736 during the day or 673-1874.
"Start collecting pledges now to conserve a downtown urban
forest adjacent to Junction Creek. On Sunday, Feb. 10 bring in
your pledges, your winter clothes and a mug for hot drinks,"
said Muckle.
The  3 km afternoon excursion includes a variety of
activities such as snow sculptures, snow shoeing, a drum
circle, a scavenger hunt and hot drinks, said Muckle.
