Members of the Greater Sudbury Community Cabinet handed out Healthy Community Recognition Awards to nine community delegations for work in creating a healthier city.

The healthy community strategy and charter was approved in 2005 and 2006, focusing on active living and healthy lifestyles; the natural environment; civic engagement and social capital; and economic growth.

Members of the Greater Sudbury Community Cabinet handed out Healthy Community Recognition Awards to nine community delegations for work in creating a healthier city. The healthy community initiative was identified as a priority by city council in 2004.

The healthy community strategy and charter was approved in 2005 and 2006, focusing on active living and healthy lifestyles; the natural environment; civic engagement and social capital; and economic growth. The event was held at Bryston’s on the Park in Copper Cliff. World renowned architect Dr. Avi Friedman spoke about creating healthy communities.

The awards were presented to Walk and Bike for Life, Sudbury Good Food Box, Volunteer Sudbury, Sudbury Children’s Water Festival, Diversity Advisory Panel, Eat Local Sudbury, Snowflake Project, Feel Free to Feel Fit and Green Esteem.
