Since The Swifty's  inception in 2002, Shawn Jonasson, Jody Johnson and Grant Stovel have been determined to make no-nonsense, heartfelt country music, said their press agent Yvonne Valnea at Last Tango Productions. She dubs them modern outlaws both for their love of the maverick country movement and for fearlessly wandering wherever their path may lead them.

"They are often likened to their heroes such as Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, The Band, CCR, Buddy Miller and Steve Earle, thought the Swifty's maintain their own distinctive sound," adds Valnea.

In the recent past The Swifty's have been touring North America playing venues and festivals including the Edmonton Folk Festival, Calgary Folk Festival, SXSW in Austin, Texas, The Taste of Chicago Country Music Festival, Dauphin's Countryfest, and many others.

They have also shared the stage with the likes of Lucinda Williams, The Sadi'es, Corb Lund, Marty Stuart and Rodney Crowell. Fans in Sudbury can catch their act at the Towne House Tavern on April 17 at 8:30 pm. Call 674-6883.

The band: Shawn Jonasson-vocals, electric/acoustic guitars, Hammond organ, Rhodes piano, horns. Jody Johnson-bass, BG vocals, and Grant Stovel, drums and percussion. Together with various guest artists.

The Swift'ys Ridin' High:  Ridin' High, The Gypsy, Miss Those Days, You Belong, Bottle of Wine, Lost In The Ruins, Empty Bottle, 26 oz of Gin, Pass The Misery, Bad Luck Slim. All songs are written by the Swifty's except track 5 (Shuyler Jansen, and track 8 (Darrek Anderson).

These guys are great with fab instrumentals and a very tight-sounding band.  Elements of the Eagles interspersed with blues, rock 'n roll and swing make this a must hear/see concert.

Ranking 3 ½ out of 5.
