Jehovah's Witnesses convention held at Sudbury Arena

Nearly 2,500 Jehovah's Witnesses from north-eastern Ontario are expected to attend the District Watchtower Convention held at the Sudbury Arena this weekend.

The convention, centered around remaining close to Jehovah, takes place from June 11 to 13.

Roy Dewar, one of the Witnesses helping organize the event, said it is a “bible command” for Jehovah's Witnesses to meet together.

Gord Muncaster, another volunteer, said the Witnesses gather to meet each other and encourage each other in their relationship with God.

“In a world that's very confused, we try to stay focused on important things,” he said.

The weekend-long convention begins daily at 9: 20 a.m., and features keynote speakers and addresses, dramatic presentations and songs.

A press release from Jehovah's Witnesses stated the convention is an encouragement for those who already believe in God and wish to deepen their spirituality, and an opportunity to explore different attitudes and misconceptions non-believers have that hinder them  from developing an intimate friendship with God.
