Two of francophone Canada's major singer-songwriters, Luc de Larochellière and Kevin Parent, will perform at Laurentian University early in the new year.

La Slague du Carrefour francophone has announced part of its concert line-up for 2010.

De Larochellière will play Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Alphonse-Raymond auditorium of Laurentian University.

“His new show includes songs from his latest album Un toi dans la tête, whose intimist themes and beautiful acoustical arwrangements have led critics to say this is the best album in his 20 year career,” said Christian Pelletier, communications and promotions coordinator for la Slague du Carrefour francophone, in a release.

Parent performs at the Fraser Auditorium at Laurentian University Wednesday, April 7.

"He has just released a new self-titled album to wide acclaim, in the honest unpretentious folk-rock vein showcasing the unique voice that has made him one of French Canada's bestselling and most recognized recording artists,” Pelletier noted.

Season tickets for this two concert series, Grande Slague, are discounted at $50 for adults and $35 for students until Jan. 20. After that remaining tickets will be sold for each concert. There are also limited quantity $15 tickets for high-school students. Tickets are sold at the box office of Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario, 21 Lasalle Boulevard, by phone at 525-5606, ext. 4, or online at www.letno.ca.

La Slague also announced a number of other concerts in smaller venues, called La Petite Slague.

"There is something for all musical tastes in this lineup, but especially for those who love to discover rising stars who could very be the attractions of tomorrow,” said Pelletier.

Marie-Pierre Arthur will perform Jan. 20, 8 p.m. at Little Montreal, 183 Elgin Street.

“She unassumingly walks out on stage, slings an electric bass over her shoulder, starts her song and blows you away,” Pelletier explained. Her music combines folk, rock and country. She was nominated for three 2009 Felix Awards for best new artist, best contemporary folk and best song of the year.

Greater Sudbury's Stef Paquette impersonates Blue Loupgarou, a northern Ontario bluesman, Saturday, March 6, 8 p.m. at the College Boréal pub. Blue Loupgarous is "an old northern Ontario bluesman of mythical proportions," said the release.

Paquette is a regular on the the sitcom series Météo+, which airs on TFO. He has produced an album of his music entitled l'Homme exponentiel and will blend theatre and music for his College Boréal performance, according to Pelletier.

Yann Perreau performs Thursday May 6. The venue is not announced yet, but Perreau's performance is sponsored by la Gallerie du Nouvel-Ontario and le Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury.

“With his charismatic stage presence and his innovative sound, Yann Perreau projects a bold integrity that seems to turn pop music into a highly enjoyable art form. He's fun and easy to listen to, but there is something deeper going on,” added Pelletier.

Perreau has just won the Felix award for best singer songwriter of the year for 2009. He will be bringing his full band to the city.

Tickets for the three Petite Slague concerts are discounted at $50 for adults and $35 for students, $15 limited numbers for high school students until Jan. 5. Only 120 Petite Slague tickets are available. After that individual concert tickets will be sold. For more information, phone 525-5606, ext. 4.
