Greater Sudbury's successes in cultural and artistic events have drawn the attention of Rideau Hall, a press release stated. Miriam Cusson, the executive and artistic director of Sudbury's French language book fair, le Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury, was among the invited guests at a recent awards ceremony for the Governor General's Literary Awards.

As part of this event, His Excellency Jean-Daniel Lafond hosts an annual forum entitled "Arts Matters," where prize laureates, artists, professors and managers of artistic organizations are invited to discuss cultural issues in society. In this forum, Cusson was asked to speak about the remarkable success of several of le Salon du livre's projects, in particular its theatrical bus tour through Sudbury (Le Parcours littéraire) as portrayed in works of fiction and poetry, and its development of the festival site in a manner that breathes new life into the downtown core and gives the area a vibrant artistic and cultural personality.

"I'm delighted to have been invited," Cusson said. "The discussions with the panellists, the authors and the many guests were very stimulating. I was pleased to be able to be an ambassador for Greater Sudbury in that context. Many participants were very impressed with the cultural dynamics in our city and said that they would like to visit us during our next book fair."

"I was proud to be on hand to represent my city and the hundreds of people who work so hard and so brilliantly to foster the love of reading and the love of literature."
