May long weekend is nearly here.

In past years, the long-awaited May 2-4 weekend marked the beginning of the camping season for many Ontario residents.

At the moment, provincial parks and conservation areas are open for day-use only. Campgrounds remain closed.

Since overnight camping is no-go at the moment ** and campfires are still restricted in Greater Sudbury, new media reporter Heather Green-Oliver and her five-year-old son Tommy are getting creative.

On today's episode of Tommy and his Mommy, the duo is setting up camp in their backyard.

There will be a tent, some fishing and a twist on the summer classic dessert, S'mores (minus the campfire of course!)

Watch today's episode in the video below.

Like many parents, Heather is juggling working from home while caring for a young child. Together, Tommy and his mommy have turned social distancing into a fun, interactive way for families to stay connected through their livestreams.

Join them and lots of other families for an interactive distraction every Monday and Thursday at 10 a.m. on Sudbury.com's Facebook page.

Grilled S'mores Pizza recipe:

1 pound of pizza dough
2 Tbsp melted butter

Chocolate chips
Graham crackers (crushed)
Mini marshmallows

Heat barbecue to high heat
Lay foil on baking sheet, brush with half of the melted butter
Roll out dough until 1/4 inch thick
Place on greased foil
Butter the top of the dough
Sprinkle cinnamon, chocolate, graham crackers, marshmallows
Turn half the burners off on the grill and slide the foil and dough onto the grill over indirect heat. Cover and heat for 8-10 minutes.

**Campgrounds remain closed at this time, however, Premier Doug Ford may have some good news to share during his live announcement at 1 p.m. today (May 15). Check back to Sudbury.com to watch that later.
