Local inventor Pirkko Campbell of Hanmer is hoping her new garden tool, the Weedcomb, will be a hit on Dragon's Den, a CBC TV show about entrepreneurs.

She recently returned from Toronto, where she was filmed for the fourth season of Dragon's Den. Her invention is a garden tool that traps weeds and cultivates soil, all in one process.

“It is great to be one of 300 chosen from approximately 4,000 auditions,” said Campbell, in a release. She is an educational assistant at Pinecrest Public School, where she leads a garden group.

She attended auditions in Sault Ste Marie in March. In April, Campbell was invited to pitch her product to the dragons.

Campbell said she doesn't know whether or not her taping will be broadcast. The producers will let her know 10 days before it goes to air. New episodes of the show begin in October.

“It is very exciting. I love to garden and several years ago I had my husband make me a tool I thought would be great in the garden. It worked so well that he made many for family and friends. They encouraged me to patent the idea.”

The Weedcomb is available at Hanmer Home Hardware, Holla's, Southview Gardens, Walden Home Hardware, A& J Home Hardware, and Ashley's Landscaping. For more information, visit www.weedcomb.com.
