Music and Film in Motion (MFM) is offering Northern Ontario filmmakers and musicians the opportunity to sit down with director Shawn Maher at The Craft of Music Videos seminar.

This session will provide tips on how to best capture the mood of a song in a visual medium. Filmmakers and musicians will be given an inside look at the craft of working within the confines of a two-and-a-half-minute musical time frame. The session will be held on  Apr. 2 from 7- 9 pm.

Having worked as a visual effects cameraman for Toybox, a camera operator for several features, an Imax film director of photography and part of the gold-selling band Svengali, Maher is uniquely aware of how to do things right both in front of and behind the camera, stated a news release.

Maher has received awards from MuchMusic, the East Coast Music Awards, the Junos and the Country Music Television Awards, according to the news release. He has shot over 50 music videos with artists such as Billy Talent, Great Big Sea, Aaron Lines, Edwin and Sarah Slean.

Maher's success as a video director has led him to work in commercials, and his extensive technical background and  innate artistry have allowed him to consistently achieve one of the most difficult things in the film industry - turning vision into reality, stated the release.

Whether in front or behind the camera, this session is important for both musicians and filmmakers, it continued.

MFM is a non-profit organization whose mandate is to foster and promote the development of the music and film industries in Northern Ontario.

The session is free for members and $5 for non-members. It will take place at MFM, 96 Larch St., Suite 200. Space is limited and the session is offered in English only.
