When Nickel City Sound left Sudbury Nov. 12 to compete at the 49th annual International Competition of Harmony Inc., in Appleton Wisconsin, their goal was to place in the top 10 of the 82 registered choruses.

To their delight, when the announcement of winning choruses was made, they learned they had placed eighth overall. Hard work and dedication to their music has led to improvement in their standing each and every year they have competed.

Nickel City Sound presently has 43 women of all ages who sing a capella style. With their glittering costuming and lively presentation, they have entertained Sudbury audiences at their annual Christmas
concerts, dinner shows and throughout the community.

They are particularly known for their "Singing Valentines" that they perform in groups of four to six for a nominal fee. Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Navy League Hall, Upper Hall.

One of the registered quartets within the chorus "Cheers" also placed in the top ten at the quartet competition. Tickets for their Christmas concert to be held at the Navy League Hall on Dec. 9 are available at a cost of $10 by calling 522-4274.
