The draw for the Sudbury Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animal’s (SPCA) “Paws for a Cause Walkathon” grand prize - a Walt Disney all-star resort holiday trip for two, donated by Gerry Lougheed Jr., - will take place Dec. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Sudbury SPCA Shelter.

The grand prize will be awarded to a participant from the province, as the walkathon is a province-wide initiative, and ballots from all walkathons will be entered.

The SPCA provides care to abused, neglected and abandoned animals. They feed, exercise, bathe, socialize, play with and provide comfort to the animals, and provide veterinary care, all in hopes of finding animals permanent homes.

According to the SPCA website, hundreds of animals were adopted from the Sudbury & District Branch adoption centre, including cats and dogs of all ages, shapes, sizes and breeds, as well as birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, in 2008.

The Sudbury SPCA Shelter is located at 760 Notre Dame Avenue.
