Redwood Acres students Mackenzie Blain, Tori Pennington and Sam Makela help out with the food drive at their school. Students in Grades JK to 5 will try to collect a minimum of 3,500 canned goods by Dec. 4.

If that goal is reached, Grade 3/4 teacher Tim Martin said he will sleep on the school roof for one night.

The class that collects the most canned goods will have a pizza party. All food banks in the Sudbury area will receive a portion of the food items collected.

Many Sudbury area schools are participating in the Kids Caring for Kids food drive. Sudbury Food Bank co-ordinator Edgar Burton said “the response this year has doubled (from) last year.” Currently, 13,000 people go to the food banks each month.
