Start the merry month of May with a little Shakespeare. The Sudbury Secondary School drama department will present an "Evening of One Act Plays" on Thursday, May 1.

Shakespeare's Ladies by A. Witty is a comedy about a teenage girl and her struggles to learn a Shakespearian monologue for her English class. She receives some assistance from a group of wise-cracking Shakespearian characters, all knowing in the ways of the Bard of Avon.

The Insanity of Mary Girard by Lanie Robertson is a play based on a true incident. Mary Girard has been declared incompetent and placed in an insane asylum by her abusive husband. Set in the late 1700s, this play examines Mary's battle to fight the demons of insanity and powerlessness of women in that time.

Never Swim Alone by Daniel MacIvor is a powerful modern drama which sees two life-long friends reveal the inner truths of their relationships and the tragic events of one summer which has shaped their lives.

These Sudbury Secondary School productions received 11 awards at the recent Sudbury District Sears Drama Festival.

Join Sudbury Secondary School for an evening of great theatre!

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors and will be available at the door. 

Curtain time is 7 p.m. in the Sheridan Auditorium at Sudbury Secondary School, 85 Mackenzie St.
