For many people Christmas is a time of celebration, but for
others, this is not the most wonderful time of the year.
That's why so many agencies, business and individuals share
their good fortune at holiday time.
The Salvation Army has been helping the less fortunate in
Canada for 125 years. It will host its annual Christmas dinner
in Sudbury Dec. 13.
David Carey, executive director, said the dinner brings
Christmas alive for the less fortunate.
"I think having been here for two and a half years I've seen
that … it does create for them a real kind of celebration
environment … for many people it brings the whole spirit of
Christmas alive for them."
The event represents what Christmas is all about, he said.
Anyone requiring a meal or assistance during the Christmas
season is invited to the dinner. The number of people attending
the dinner can vary. Some years as many as 300 people show up
for a hot meal and some hospitality.
The Salvation Army Christmas dinner will be held  Dec. 13
starting at 5 pm at 146 Larch St.
People who would like to help at the Army's Christmas dinner,
should phone Thelma Trahan at 673-1175.
Volunteers are always needed for cleaning up, setting up, and
serving food.
"There's always a need for volunteers on the day of the
(Christmas dinner)," Carey said.
