The Erosonic duo, consisting of baritone saxophonist David Mott and accordionist Joseph Petric will perform Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. at the Cambrian College amphitheatre as part of Sudbury's 5-Penny New Music Concerts series.

Tickets cost $15 for general admission and $10 for students, and are available at the door, Black Cat, Prom Music and the Laurentian University Bookstore.

Nearly all the pieces on the program were written by Mott, such as "Mystery Theatre," which is also the title of the duo's acclaimed debut CD, released in 2003. Petric will also perform "Orbiting Garden," a piece for accordion with electro-acoustics by Toronto composer Christos Hatzis.

Mott, who teaches at York University, is a highly-regarded composer and improviser. He is also known for his extended virtuoso techniques on the baritone saxophone, including circular breathing and multi-phonics.

Petric, who also lives in Toronto, is a master of the classical accordion. He has toured extensively since the mid-1980s and premiered over 100 compositions. His recordings include the "Sequenza" for accordion by Luciano Berio on the Naxos label, and the Accordion Concerto by Peter Paul Koprowski on the CBC-5000 series. His performance art integrates improvisation, interpretation, extended instrumental techniques, and vibrato.

Erosonic was founded in 1994. The name is a wordplay based on Eros, the Greek god of desire, "air" and "sonic."

This event is presented in co-operation with Cambrian College and Laurentian University. It is also made possible with the financial support of the SOCAN Foundation, the Ontario Arts Council, and the City of Greater Sudbury.
