Science North receives funds for planetarium

Shelly Glover, Parliamentary Secretary for Official Languages and Member of Parliament (Sainte Boniface), pictured with Science North CEO Jim Marchbank announced $490,000 in funding for the new digital dome planetarium from the Government of Canada.

The 36-seat planetarium is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including surround sound, and will be used for viewing feature films about astronomy and space-related science.

Some of these funds will be used to create a portable planetarium as part of Science North's outreach programming. This funding falls under the Cultural Spaces Canada Program.

This program seeks to improve physical conditions for artistic creativity and innovation. It is designed to increase access for Canadians to performing, visual, and media arts and to museum collections and heritage displays. The improvement, renovation, construction of arts and heritage facilities,the acquisition of specialized equipment and conducting feasibility studies are supported by the program. Glover enjoyed a 30 minute tour of Science North after the announcement.
