More than 100 leaders and decision-makers from science centres in 34 countries will visit Science North this week to take part in the facility's component of the Fifth Science Centre World Congress.

Seventy-seven per cent of delegates attending the congress events at Science North come from outside North America, according to a news release. The Science Centre World Congress is a rare event for Canada - one that may not return for 36 years.

The Fifth Science Centre World Congress begins in Toronto and runs from June 15 o 19. Delegates have the option of participating in an extra day-and-a-half program offered by Science North.

The delegates will leave Toronto on June 19 to attend a northern Ontario party and opening reception at Science North. On June 20 and 21, delegates will take part in interactive, concurrent learning sessions at the science centre and at Dynamic Earth.

"We are very honoured to welcome our international counterparts from around the world," said Jim Marchbank, Science North CEO, in the news release. "The Science Centre World Congress is an opportunity to highlight the successes of Science North and Dynamic Earth on a world stage. We plan to make a huge impression on our international guests, who will then return home to share stories about the City of Greater Sudbury, our science centre, and the scientific experts who reside here."
