The musicians of Widesight have their sights set on some solid exposure when they play on MuchMusic's reality show disBAND.

The Greater Sudbury-based foursome of Jon Dumas, Chris Masson, Dave Gibson and Kyle MP have been playing “radio rock,” or mainstream-style rock music, together for the past two years.

“We're trying to get a couple big people in the music industry to hear us,” Dumas, the band's bass player, said.

After the band submitted an audition tape to the show, they were invited to play for a panel of judges who will tell them if they have a chance of “making it.” The performance takes place on Aug. 21 at the Annex Wreck Room in Toronto.

There is no guarantee that the band will make the show set to air at a later date, but Dumas said “if we do get people that big to hear us, that could mean good things for us.”

Widesight has played the local bar scene, and took the stage at Summerfest last year and also competed in a battle of the bands contest at the Hard Rock Café in Toronto.

Although they didn't win, Dumas said the band “got good exposure” in a different city.

Dumas said disBAND could be the opportunity the band needs to be transformed from a group that is currently “setting up jams in dingy old basements."

“To go from that to big would be great,” he said.

Dumas said the band hopes to get into a studio soon, and would like to take their music to the next level.

“We all have jobs, and we all like our jobs, but this is something we're all determined to do,” he said. “We have the drive for it. We're really going to try and push it.”

Widesight is scheduled to play at the Annex Wreck Room at 10:30 on Aug. 21.

Accoring to Much Music's website, disBAND is an original series that gives young artists “rock star guidance and direct music industry exposure.”

Judges will pick the best from 13 unsigned bands and offer them “rock star treatment.”

Last year, the show helped get Stereos and Dean Lickyer signed to major labels.
