In collaboration with Sudbury Theatre Centre, the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra has prepared a reading with music on Jan. 7, 2023.

Come to hear Waubgeshig Rice read excerpts from his award-winning book “Moon of the Crusted Snow” and listen to the Sudbury Symphony String Quartet, as they interpret the various phases of Waub’s story.

From the almost pastoral opening to the apocalyptic ending, the quartet has chosen a famous piece of music that also reflects a progression from the simple family to the fearsome and often destructive social.

Waubgeshig Rice’s iconic story accompanied by Shostakovich’s 3rd String Quartet demonstrates our hopes and fears on a global platform and pulls the story out of Northern Ontario and into the universal.

“I’m thrilled and honoured to join the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra for this special performance,” said Rice.

“I believe good music can tell a compelling story, and good writing can conjure wonderful sounds, so marrying the two on stage is only natural. I’m eager to work with the quartet to create an enthralling show for our community.

“Moon of the Crusted Snow is a winter story, and together we’ll channel the creative spirit that thrives during the snowy season.”

The show runs at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 7 at Sudbury Theatre Centre. Tickets are available online here.
