David Wiewel, a photographer of 20 years, loves to make his art different.

His night photographs look more like paintings than photographs. He was showing off his work of a site on Manitoulin Island near Lake Manitou and another outside of Iron Bridge at Heather Topps's Studio 276.

It is located at 276 Cedar St. and was open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3 and 4, for the Tour On The Fringe 10th anniversary art sale.

“I use a high dynamic range technique that gives my photographs the look of a painting,” he said Saturday afternoon.

“All my images are done at night. They can be done using a 15 minute exposure. That shows the star tracks in the sky though it looks like a day time photo. It gives it a different look.”

Heather Wise, a visual artist from the Donovan area of the west end, works in oil pastels, water colours and miniature sculptures.

“I have been involved in art since I was a child,” she said.

Her themes deal with issues women face everyday.
“They can be dealing with men, other women, whatever lurks in a woman's mind,”she chuckled.”

Her next showing will be at the Incinerator on MacKenzie Street on Oct. 16 and 17. For more information phone 207-4598.

Despite a rainy day, organizer Heather Topp said a lot of people came through her studio to see the work of the artists.
“I actually think the weather helped us out. People decided to go inside for a change on a day like this instead of doing outdoor activities like gardening.”

Topp hosts the tour every year in her house.
“My house has a lot of artistic history. It was a part of the Open Doors Sudbury tour today as well. The francophone band Cano lived and played music here at one time in the mid 1970s to the early 1980s.”
