After years of not much happening with the Sudbury Blueberry Festival, the local event returns today with several favourite activities.

The event has been taken over by Autumnwood Mature Lifestyle Communities.

The Blueberry Bash takes place Wednesday, Aug. 16 from 1-4 p.m. at Red Oak Villa.

The event includes the Sudbury Celebrity Pie Eating Contest (with participation from Sudbury.com reporter Jenny Lamothe), as well as treats, face-painting and children’s activities.

Entry is free and you might even see the famous Blueberry Festival mascots - Sud-Berry Bear and Sudbrina Bear.

The festival continues August 18 from 8-10:30 a.m. for a Blueberry Festival Pancake Breakfast at Amberwood Suites.

“We look forward to maintaining traditional festival activities that have been beloved for years, while instilling new and exciting traditions going forward,” said a press release.
