The Crown of Comedy has been awarded, and Sudbury’s own Josh Charette is wearing it.

Four comedians from across the country competed for the crown at Shaughnessey’s Bar and Grill on May 26 during the Laugh Out Loud (LOL) Sudbury Comedy Festival.

Performances were video taped and posted online at www.lolsudbury.com, where audience members were asked to vote for their favorite act. Voting closed June 16 at midnight.

Charette was up against Simon King, Nathan Macintosh and Dave Merheje.

Going into the competition, Charette said he was a bit nervous about competing against comedians who were far more experienced than him.

He told NorthernLife.ca he had a plan going onto stage before the competition, which helped him feel more prepared.

His strategy worked out. For his win, Charette received $1,000 and bragging rights.

“I couldn’t have done it without all the support from friends and family and the people in Sudbury,” Charette said.

Charette said he plans to continue doing comedy, and is in the works of putting together an amateur comedy competition to be held at SRO on Aug. 5.

The Crown of Comedy was sponsored by NorthernLife.ca.
