Local sc-fi author David M. Kelly said he’s excited to take part in the Graphic-Con event at the Sudbury Arena June 24.

"Graphic-Con was the very first event I attended with my books," said Kelly, in a press release.

"I only had two published back then, but people still stopped at my table to say hello, even if they weren't regular readers, and that meant an awful lot, especially for someone just starting out."

Kelly aims to make his books both entertaining and thought-provoking, whether you're a sci-fi veteran or a newbie to the genre. "I hear from people who think sci-fi is intimidating or boring, but I work hard to make sure my writing is neither of those things!” he said.

Since the last Graphic-Con in 2019, Kelly has published a further five books. His Joe Ballen series catapults readers into a near-future world, teeming with scientific advancements and snarky humor. Ballen, an irreverent and brilliant space engineer, is the star of the show. His unyielding wit and knack for trouble make for an edge-of-the-seat reading experience.

In the Logan's World Series, set in the same fictional "universe," Kelly takes readers on an unforgettable journey to the first settled exoplanet, where danger lurks in every corner. Set against the backdrop of this newly inhabited world, Logan Twofeathers, a Native American protagonist, fights against invading forces to protect his family and the other settlers.

And that's not all! Brace yourself for a humorous interstellar romp with Hyperia Jones and the Olive Branch Caper. Meet Hyperia Jones, a septapoid who leads a double life as a professional wrestler by day and an interstellar jewel thief by night. With her charm, agility, and a mischievous sense of humor, Hyperia embarks on a daring escapade in this uproarious science fiction novel.

Don't miss the chance to experience these enthralling worlds for yourself. Stop by the lower concourse of the arena to meet the creative mind behind the stories and pick up your own signed paperbacks.

Graphic-Con runs at the Sudbury Community Arena (240 Elgin St.) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 24.

Known as Sudbury’s oldest and largest fan convention, Graphic-Con 2023 celebrates the contributions made by comic books and related popular art forms to literacy, arts and culture through the presentation of an annual fan convention for the communities of Greater Sudbury and Northern Ontario.

Purchase tickets online here or at the Sudbury Community Arena box office.
