Sudbury will be a swingin’ hot spot

Jazz enthusiasts say they can’t wait for the first ever Jazz Sudbury Festival, which takes place Sept. 11 and 12 at Science North. “It’s great. After playing jazz for 20 years I can say this (festival) is absolutely fantastic.

Jazz enthusiasts say they can’t wait for the first ever Jazz Sudbury Festival, which takes place Sept. 11 and 12 at Science North.

“It’s great. After playing jazz for 20 years I can say this (festival) is absolutely fantastic. I could not believe it when I heard about it,” said Allan Walsh, a local musician and jazz instructor at Laurentian University.

Jazz festival headliners include Canadian pianist Michael Kaeshammer, and the Shuffle Demons, a Toronto band.

Greater Sudbury Transit will provide free transportation to and from the festival Saturday to all advance ticket holders. Simply show your tickets to the driver, said organizers.

Science North will also provide an evening program for children aged six to 12 at a small cost. Phone 522-3701.

Jazz Sudbury Festival tickets are $75, single Jazz Pass ($60 for seniors and students), $60 for a single evening pass ($50 for seniors and students), $20 for a single day pass ($45 for a family of four with additional children $5 each) and $25 for Cortina Jazz Cruise to be purchased only at 673-7770.
