OPP Const. Jeannine Grassie, North Bay Unit Highway Safety Division, northeast region, checks for outdated, stolen and unauthorized plates in the automated license plate recognition car.

The vehicle is used in Amber Alerts and has two cameras in the front and one in the back. There are four of these cars in Ontario, one of which is designated for northern Ontario.

The OPP and the Greater Sudbury Police recently held a display of traffic planes, cruisers, motorcycles, marine and ATV equipment at the Greater Sudbury Airport.

The law enforcement organizations want to draw people’s attention to traffic safety and enforcement initiatives that took place during Canada Road Safety Week (May 17-24), the Victoria Day holiday weekend and throughout the summer.

The goal is to reduce injuries and save lives on northern Ontario highways, waterways and trails.
