For the second year in a row, Sudbury Performance Group will be holding the Her Northern Voice music festival, with special-guest headliner, Susan Aglukark.
The concert takes place starting at 8 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Collège Boréal Concert Hall. The Her Northern Voice music festival runs Aug. 9-13. You can view the full lineup here.
“We are excited to once again be highlighting women in song,” said Nancy Beland, vice-president of Sudbury Performance Group. “We have an amazing lineup of talent planned, and we could think of no one more appropriate to cap off our festival than Susan Aglukark.”
During a career that has spanned more than 25 years, Aglukark’s journey as a singer-songwriter has led her to reflect on who she is, where she comes from, and the importance of discovery—discovery of history, culture, and self.
Aglukark is the first Inuk artist to win a Juno and a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for lifetime artistic achievement.
During the past 25 years of reflection and songwriting, Aglukark kept coming back to one area of profound knowing—the Inuit are an extraordinary people, deeply grounded in a culture forged by their Ancestors; their journey is what shaped them.
Tickets to the show cost $45 for general admission, or $60 for VIP admission. Purchase tickets at www.sudburyperformance.ca, or by phoning 705-662-8518.
