The Terry Fox Foundation invites all media associations to host a Terry Fox Works fundraising event on Friday, Sept. 12.

Through the efforts of supporters, $11.85 million was raised for innovative cancer research in 2007.

In addition to supporting the National Cancer Institute of Canada, The Terry Fox Foundation is affiliated with the newly established Terry Fox Research Institute ( www.tfri.ca ).

The Research Institute's focus is to work with researcher teams to ensure that today's best science becomes tomorrow's affordable medicine.

"If you have given a dollar, you are part of the Marathon of Hope," said Terry Fox in 1980.

Although Terry Fox ran his Marathon of Hope 28 years ago, the passing of almost three decades has not quelled his message of hope and inspiration.

Today, Terry is recognized as an enduring symbol of strength and determination in the face of an unrelenting foe. His amazing story evokes qualities of integrity, strength, and compassion, reflecting values that Canadians hold most dear.

Now, more than ever, Canadians should be provided with the opportunity to learn from Terry's example of selflessness and courage. Media involvement with this event will assist in fulfilling this goal.

The Terry Fox Foundation invites all media associations to host Terry Fox Works Fundraising Events to benefit cancer research on Friday Sept. 12.

Fun activities can include barbecues, breakfast, sporting events, silent auctions, and/or the signature Great Canadian Head Shave Event. This is a great opportunity to make a positive difference in the community, while at the same time generate public attention.
