Timberwolf Sno-Park now open for skiing, skating and snowshoeing

Enjoy the great north winter before heading to the outdoor fire for a warm-up

It was a sunny and cold day to open the new Timberwolf Sno-Park, but that didn’t stop brave Sudburians coming to enjoy the new recreational area.

In fact, that’s exactly why Linda Liboiron-Grenier came with friends Christine Rodrigue, Melanie Chartrand and Chartrand’s son, Mateo, 7.

“We choose to live in northern Ontario so we might as well embrace the weather and the nature that we're living in,” said Liboiron-Grenier.

With its grand opening at 10 a.m. on Jan. 26, the trails and pathways were beautifully groomed and waiting for all those who wished to enjoy the new routes. Visitors could choose to cross-country ski or snowshoe, as Liboiron-Grenier’s group decided to do, on one of the 1 km, 2.5 km and 5 km loops, or head out for a skate along the path that is lit by lanterns in the evening.

Christopher Forester decided to hit the skate path as soon as it was open in the morning. Not only was Forester excited to try the Timberwolf Sno-Park skate path, one that is 400 metres that lead to a rink and back, but he was headed to Ramsey Lake and Nina’s way at Kivi Park next.

Forester is from London, Ontario, and originally came to Sudbury on vacation, one that he is spending trying to find the best skate paths in Ontario. “Sudbury is lucky to have three really good skating trails,” he said. “So this is the first of the day for me and a nice sunny day despite the cold.”

Forester said he usually heads to the United States for travelling, but that hasn’t been something easy to do as of late.

“I just got a couple of weeks off and normally this time of year I'd be road tripping down south to the U.S., but with that not being a possibility, it seemed like a great time to just re-explore Ontario.”

You can re-explore Timberwolf at the Sno-Park, now open.

Timberwolf stated the clubhouse would be open for washroom facilities only, due to current COVID restrictions. The clubhouse will be open with 50 per cent capacity beginning Friday February 4. All guests must provide proof of vaccination.

There are daily rates to use the park, with a family rate option and children under 8 entering free, and there is the opportunity to purchase season passes as well.
