A Canada-Wide contest to promote the Ontario-Québec tourism route and francophone resources available in Ontario is making a stop at Science North's Special Exhibits Hall.

On June 17 at 5 p.m., an event will give media the opportunity to gather with the participants, who have been travelling back through the years 1615 and 1616 on an expedition retracing the footsteps of Samuel de Champlain.

The ten-day travel adventure, which begins on June 11 and is presented by Direction Ontario, will include stops in Québec, Montreal, the Ottawa region, Ottawa River, Mattawa, North Bay, French River, Killarney, Sudbury, Manitoulin Island, the Bruce Peninsula, Georgian Bay and Huronia.

The participants will visit historic sites, meet with First Nations people and take part in outdoor activities, including sea kayaking, rafting, biking and walking tours, as they discover the vast territory. Participants will also experience a rich and diverse franco-Ontarian culture and everything it has to offer.

A film crew and photographers will be following the group throughout its tour and will create a one-hour television program on the best moments.

Media are invited to meet the competitors and project co-ordinators to learn more about this tourism initiative.

In partnership with the Following Champlain's Footsteps project, Direction Ontario is introducing a Circuit Champlain 2008 Passport. Tourists will be encouraged to visit identified tourism providers, including Science North, which are located on the proposed Champlain travel route. Participating tourists will collect stamps and validation codes at each location to be eligible for prizes, including a trip for two to Georgian Bay.
