Walk of Life sets pace for healthy living

The cardiac rehabilitation program at the Sudbury Regional Hospital will raise money for equipment, resources and staff education during Sunday's Walk of Life.

"This walk is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the local resources available for people who are living with heart disease", said registered nurse and exercise specialist Kate Blanchette.

Cardiac rehab programs, which are medically supervised, focus on exercise, education and lifestyle changes. They assist people recovering from a cardiac event and maintain the health of people who might be at risk for heart disease.

Walkers can register at 8:30 a.m. at the Older Adult Centre in the YMCA. They'll walk to the Jim Gordon boardwalk, then back to the centre for a barbecue lunch.

Experts will answer questions about the program and heart-healthy living.

"Community and family support is vital to patient recovery and wellness," Blanchette said. "This is one way to show that support."
