Mining engineering students from across Canada will arrive in Sudbury this week for the 2024 Canadian Mining Games.
The event will take place March 7 to 10 at Laurentian University.
Held annually at a rotating location, the competition gives Canadian mining engineering students a chance to demonstrate their mining knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and adaptive capabilities through a variety of challenges.
Students compete in technical events like mineral identification and mine design, practical challenges like mine rescue and jackleg drilling, and presentations with themes including crisis management, and health and safety.
Teams from 10 schools will participate in the games. They include the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Laurentian University, McGill University, Polytechnique Montréal, Queen's University, University of British Columbia, Université Laval, University of Alberta, University of Saskatchewan, and University of Toronto.
Laurentian last hosted the games in 2012.
