The Sudbury-based sister firms of Pioneer Construction and Fisher Wavy are being jointly recognized for their contribution to postsecondary education in the North.
During Cambrian College’s annual career fair conference on Feb. 6, the two companies received the school’s Employer Award of Distinction for their “exemplary support for Cambrian, its students and graduates,” according to a news release.
“Pioneer Construction and Fisher Wavy are pillars of our community when it comes to leadership, community support and success in business,” Renee Scott, Cambrian’s director of marketing, recruitment and student success, said in the Feb. 6 release.
“They have been an important part of Cambrian’s community for more than 15 years, accepting co-op students, apprentices, summer students, and actively recruiting from our pool of graduates each year.”
Pioneer Construction builds and maintains roads and highways throughout Northern Ontario, while Fisher Wavy supplies ready-mix concrete and aggregates. The two companies are operated by the same family out of a joint headquarters in the west end of Sudbury.
“We are fortunate to have such a wonderful college right at our doorstep where we can source talented students,” said Natalie Parent, human resources manager for Pioneer Construction and Fisher Wavy, in the release.
“At Pioneer Construction and Fisher Wavy, we believe that everyone needs an opportunity to apply their academic experience and we are proud to be a viable choice for those students. We have numerous alumni who have made positive contributions to our organization, and we look forward to that trend continuing.”
Cambrian’s Employer Award of Distinction has been given out annually since 2019. Previous winners include HARD-LINE (2020), Ionic Mechatronics (2021), and City Welding (2022).
