2016 in review: a snapshot of life in the Nickel City

A strange TV commercial, G-Rant's return and booze at the movies

Some of the most popular stories Sudbury.com carried this year fall somewhere between news and just plain interesting.

Whether it's a strange advertising campaign for coffee whitener, a unique barbecue restaurant or the opportunity to buy a wobbly pop at the movie theatres, here are some of the best Lifestyle stories we covered this year.

The Sudbury Incident catches people's attention

Nestlé Canada launched a mysterious campaign surrounding an incident at a Sudbury trailer park that involved coffee creamer. They tagged it as the “Sudbury Incident,” and chose the Nickel City to promote their Coffee-mate because the city “is known for some great, unique things: The Big Nickel, The Super Stack, The Wolves, having over 300 lakes and a Stompin’ Tom song about it, but most Canadians have never been there. Making it a really cool and intriguing Canadian city,” said a Nestlé spokesperson. For the story, click here

The Deloyes opened Sudbury very first Escape Room on July 14, in an effort to provide an out-of-the-ordinary experience for Sudburians seeking a bit of adventure. The couple pondered long and hard, and settled on a setting in Berlin in 1963 as the theme. For the story, click here

Halloween costumes that ooze Sudbury

Hey, let's go to the drive-in

This summer, a group of high school kids, who really didn't experience what a drive-in was in its hey day, brought back the idea to Sudbury and launched The Sudbury Drive-In. A summer-only experience, movies were screened through four nights, with each night featuring a family friendly flick, and another appropriate for teens and older audiences. Imagine it, and it could happen

Come on down, Sudbury!

Hundreds of Sudburians ventured to Sudbury Arena in September to test their luck in The Price is Right Live. Lineups were long, and the wait was long to get in, so Sudbury.com provided some entertainment in its own Price Is Right way while people waited. For the video, click here.

High Winds put a cork in April Wine show
