Three Sudbury health care agencies will benefit from what is being called "unused health care service dollars" from providers across the North East Local Health Integration Network (NE LHIN).

Overall, $3.3 million in one-time funding is being distributed throughout the northeast.

In Sudbury, Maison Vale Inco Hospice is receiving $13,360, VON Sudbury $5,500 and Rockhaven $30,000.

Health care agencies who have not spent all of the money in their budget have the option of giving it back to the NE LHIN for re-allocation, said NE LHIN spokesperson Cynthia Stables.

For example, an agency may have been unable to fill a vacant position, and the funding they had received for the position was not used, she said.

"This funding will go towards the Hospice Residential Care Program and will directly benefit the residents of Maison Vale Inco Hospice and their families," said Leo Therrien, executive director of the hospice, in a release.

The NE LHIN also approved $320,000 to be split among the hospitals in Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins to support a wait time booking system.
