No bones about it — there were plenty of smiles on Wednesday when Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci (left) announced a $712,000 Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation grant for the second season of TVO’s “Hard Rock Medical.” Andrew Steele, TVO vice-president of strategy, joined Bartolucci and a skeleton at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) in celebrating the announcement. “Hard Rock Medical,” loosely based on NOSM, is filmed in and around Sudbury and counts Nickel City actor Stef Paquette among the cast. Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci announced $712,000 in funding Wednesday morning at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. “Hard Rock Medical,” loosely based on NOSM, follows a group of medical school students as they train in Northern Ontario communities.

“I am proud of the success of this medical drama,” said Bartolucci. “By continuing to invest in film and television projects in Sudbury and the North, we are helping northerners develop their skills as cast and crew members and providing jobs close to home.”

Season 2 of “Hard Rock Medical” is expected to create 50 jobs.

“TVO is thrilled to once again access the (NOHFC) for Season 2 of 'Hard Rock Medical,” said Lisa de Wilde, chief executive officer of TVO, in a news release. “'Hard Rock Medical' ... exemplifies TVO's commitment to telling uniquely Ontario stories.”
